Requirements:
As one of 12 motivated participants, you must:
* Be able to sustain moderate walking for 3 hours for a total of 5 miles.
* Have proper gear as listed below.
* Commit to the complete Retreat Series. (Minimum attendance means 3 out of 4 of the first South Mountain hikes, Jockey Hollow, 1 out of 2 of the later South Mountain hikes, and the Gunks hike.)
* Complete a brief questionnaire and waiver.
Fee: $350, includes new map of the South Mountain Reservation and other essentials. Meeting places to be announced. *Rain or shine.

Gear Recommendations:
Water, and something to carry it in (Camelbacks are great)
A good, comfortable pair of light hiking shoes
Bug Repellent
Comfortable socks (and a spare pair to change into if your feet get wet)
Non-cotton shorts (and underwear) for warm weather
Non-cotton pants (and underwear) for cooler weather
Non-cotton shirt (short sleeves for warm weather, long sleeves for cold weather)
Sunglasses (only needed when outside of wooded trails)
Sunhat (only needed when outside of wooded trails)
Rain Jacket (just in case)
Rain pants (just in case)
We suggest that you shop for your gear at a reputable outfitter. The best local shop is Blue Ridge Mountain Sports in Madison. On Route 17 there are several gear shops, perhaps the most well known is Campmor. The Sports Authority has a good selection as well.
